PROP DANCE WORKSHOP
The workshop is designed for flow art performers who want to explore the mutual relationship with their prop through two-way communication. During four Saturdays, we will deal with a somatic approach to flow art, organic functional movement, dynamics within improvisation and choreography, and stage presence. All props are welcome.
The class begins with a thematic warm-up through the awakening of the fascia and the spine, listening to the echoes of forces and impulses in the body, and raising awareness of the body in space and in the interrelationship with other performers. The warm-up includes contemporary dance and contact improvisation techniques, which we put at the service of communication with the prop, and improvisational exercises within which the proposed techniques are implemented.
In the following part, various choreographic tasks will be proposed to the participants, on the theme of rhythm and dynamics, and on the theme of body position in relation to the prop, space, and other people. The tasks will include improvisation and short choreographies that will be practiced solo, in pairs, and in groups.
The class ends with stretching and relaxation.
The participants need to bring their prop as well as clothes and shoes that allow them to move easily and freely.
